Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas congratulated the winners and all the participants for their continued support for the Provincial LGU’s effort for a safer and cleaner environment by their active participation in the Road Beautification Program which is not only a competition but more so as an avenue to strengthen people’s culture of unity toward the preservation, protection, and promotion of a healthy environment. The road beautification activity is an annual program of the Provincial Tourism Office which according to Provincial Chief Tourism Officer Eleazar Carias aims at encouraging every Benguet town to clean and beautify the road sides in their areas of jurisdiction by planting flowers, shrubs and other decorative plants to highlight the identity of their municipality. Carias added that the program is also supporting the Dengue Prevention and Control Program of the DOH “as it emphasizes on the clean-up drive along the roadside to help eliminate mosquito-breeding areas and prevent the possible surge [in] dengue cases.”

ROAD SECTIONS with an aggregate length of over 600 meters along Buyagan-Wangal-Banengbeng provincial road were constructed with road shoulders to help reduce passing conflicts between motor vehicles and pedestrians as well as to provide space for bicyclists to ride at their own pace. This includes the construction of a retaining wall and a barrier along a 45-meter section in Banengbeng to prevent vehicular accidents. Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas has earlier allocated P5 million for this project as part of the administration’s effort in providing easy and safe road access.
