Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas and National Irrigation Administration-CAR Regional Manager Benito Espique, Jr. on Thursday, April 21, led the turn-over of nine irrigation projects to different irrigators’ associations in the province at the Benguet Sports Complex in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet. These projects were funded by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and the Provincial Government of Benguet. The nine projects have a total cost of over P36 million pesos of which P27.9 million came from NIA. The remaining was counter-funded by the Provincial LGU with P8.2 million. These irrigation projects are now serving a total of 205 hectares of farmland benefiting 310 farmers in five municipalities.Earlier, Governor Diclas sent the Provincial Project Monitoring Committee headed by Fidela Luis, Provincial Planning Development Coordinator, to assess other irrigation projects funded by same agencies to check if they are okay to be turned over to the end-users. Recommendations were already sent to the contractors for appropriate action. Also present during the turn-over ceremony were Vice Governor Johnny Waguis, Board Member Roberto Canuto, and other local officials and barangay captains of the five municipalities.
