The Provincial Government of Benguet headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas has recently completed the first and second phases of the construction and improvement of a barangay health station in Suyoc-Palasaan, Suyoc, Mankayan funded with the amount of P2,500,000.00. Palasaan OIC Barangay Chairman Marco Camiling thanked Governor Diclas for heeding the request of the community for a more spacious health station as the new facility could now accommodate more clients especially senior citizens and pregnant women.

Governor Diclas said this is part of the Provincial LGU’s effort to bring primary health care services closer to the locals especially among the marginalized sector of the community. This is to ensure access to basic medical services such as consultations, immunizations and other health-related services. There are around 2,600 individuals in the said locality who will benefit from the newly completed project. #HEALTHIERBenguet#UnitedBenguet

Hauling of 6.5-ton farm hazardous wastes in Tublay to be transported to a designated waste treater in Tarlac. This activity was spearheaded by the CropLife Philippines in partnership with the Provincial Government of Benguet headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas. These tons of wastes were collected from the different towns in the province.

Meanwhile, after two years of processing requirements, the Benguet PLGU is finally a registered farm hazardous waste generator — something the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) is also glad about. Rowena Billig, Provincial Officer for Benguet and Baguio at the FPA, said they are finally grateful for the successful registration of the Provincial LGU as a farm hazardous waste generator as this will give way for a smooth management of hazardous wastes in the province. JOECHEM Company being the licensed transporter in partnership with CropLife Philippines and two other related associations had been conducting hauling of hazardous wastes in the province since 2014 but it stopped with the strict waste management guidelines of the DENR which includes a requirement of a registered waste generator. With this, on behalf of the farmers in the province, Gov. Diclas ordered the registration of the LGU as waste generator. The long process took two years since 2019. This begins a stronger partnership in the implementation of sustainable farm hazardous waste management in the province. Hazardous wastes such as bottles of used pesticides have to be disposed properly to protect the environment as well as the health of the people in the community. The Benguet Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (BPENRO) is reminding farmers to continue practicing proper waste management and coordinate with their barangay LGUs or designated collection areas once they have gathered hazardous wastes. #HEALTHIERBenguet#UnitedBenguet

Plastic Chair-making Facility in Benguet now Operational

Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force Meeting

January 5, 2022- Plastic Chair-making Facility in Benguet now Operational

Plastic chair-making facility in Benguet now operational

The Benguet Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) said a plastic recycling equipment that can convert plastic wastes into chairs has recently been installed at the old BTS gym in Wangal, La Trinidad, and now operational.

The P6.55M equipment which the Provincial Government of Benguet received from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) last December 2021 is ready to serve the 13 towns of the province through their respective Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers (MENROs).

Sinclaire Gawiden, Community Development Officer at BENRO, said the MENROs may coordinate with BENRO if they plan to use the equipment.

She said a 25-kilogram of plastic waste such as junk food wrappers can be converted into a classroom type chair using the facility.

The set of equipment includes a shredder machine where plastic wastes are fed through before getting washed and dried; and an extruder machine where the shredded dried plastic is loaded before being melted and placed into seven chair mold parts. After going through pressing and cooling process, the molded parts are then assembled into a plastic seat.

Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas said the facility is a big help for the province as the local government pursues to address problems on solid wastes.

Apart from contributing to solid waste management, Diclas said the equipment would also benefit schools as the chairs made using the facility will be donated to public schools in the province.

Benguet ENRO is set to conduct training among their personnel for the regular operation of the said facility.
