ADIVAY MASS WEDDING CEREMONY

A total of 34 couples tied the knot during the Adivay Mass Wedding ceremony at San Jose Husband of Mary Parish Church in Poblacion, La Trinidid, Benguet on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022.

The wedding ceremony was officiated by Rev. Fr. Mario Tambic, Rev. Fr. Vincent Bunagan, Rev. Fr. George De Castro, and Rev. Fr. Bede Lee, and was graced by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas, Vice Governor Ericson Lawagey Felipe, and Board Member Alexander Fianza.

Another mass wedding is scheduled on November 18 in Itogon, Benguet where 14 couples are set to be wed.

The mass wedding ceremonies, spearheaded by the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (OPSWD), are part of the monthlong celebration of the 122nd Foundation Anniversary of the Province of Benguet through Adivay Festival with the theme: “Benguet Adivay: A People’s Festival of Culture, Nature, and the Future.”

INTER-REGION MARKET ENCOUNTER

MSMEs from regions CAR, I, III, V, and XI are participating in this year’s Inter Regional Market Encounter which is part of the Benguet Adivay Festival in celebration of the 122nd Foundation Anniversary of the Province of Benguet.

The market encounter was opened through a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas, Vice Governor Ericson Lawagey Felipe, and Congressman Eric Go Yap at the Provincial Capitol Covered Court on November 7.

Governor Diclas is inviting the public to support the MSMEs by buying local products. The market encounter is open on Nov. 7-9 and on Nov. 14-15. The covered court is located at the back of the Provincial Capitol.

Benguet Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas on Monday, November 7, officially declared the opening of the 2022 Benguet Adivay Festival which is in celebration of the 122nd Foundation Anniversary of the Province of Benguet with the theme: “Benguet Adivay: A People’s Festival of Culture, Nature, and the Future.”

The kick-off program was led Gov. Diclas, Cong. Eric Go Yap, Vice Gov. Ericson Lawagey Felipe and all other provincial and municipal officials together with officials from various national line agencies.

Candidates for Mr. and Ms. Benguet 2022 flaunted their ethnic attire during the Benguet Adivay 2022 Kick-Off program at the Provincial Capitol on Monday, November 7. 

The candidates will be showing off their talent and sportswear during the pre-pageant on November 18 at the Ben Palispis Auditorium. The final night is scheduled for November 25 at the Benguet Sports Complex (BSC), Wangal, La Trinidad.

Heather Ann Pulido who wrote a children’s story about her grandmother and her “half-house” in Kapangan, Benguet won third place in the 2022 Palanca Awards.

Pulido was one of the panelists during the 2022 BIYAG Creative Writing Workshop Fellowship organized by the Provincial Governor’s Office headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas.

According to the Palanca awardee, her story tells about “two kids navigating the loss of a parent with their grandma’s help” and is written for “my brothers and all the children with ‘half-families’ like ours.”

In her Facebook post, Pulido thanked her friends for their encouragement and for reading “my drafts and gave valuable feedback.” The writer also said she dedicated her win to her grandmother Lupao and Mama Susan “who taught me that half is okay. Half is great. Half is whole.”

“The story includes Kankanaey dialogue. Cheers to more Cordilleran children’s literature in the mainstream,” Pulido added.

 The Palanca Awards or Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature is the Philippines’ most prestigious and most enduring literary awards and is dubbed as the “Pulitzer Prize” of the Philippines.

Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP

Some 147 college students signed contract with the Provincial Government of Benguet, headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas, as scholars under the 16th Batch of the Benguet Provincial Scholarship Program during the scholars’ orientation at the Ben Palispis Auditorium on Oct. 27.
 
One-hundred forty (140) of the scholars were qualified under the regular program (one barangay, one scholar) and four were qualified for their sports achievement and technical skills. They will be receiving P10,000.00 per semester, while the remaining three qualified students who opted for technical vocational courses will be receiving P7,000.00 per semester.
 
The screening for the 17th Batch of the Scholarship Program will start next school year.

The Provincial Government of Benguet headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas was recognized as top performing local government in local revenue generation nationwide during an awarding ceremony held in Metro Manila on October 26 in celebration of the 35th Founding Anniversary of the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF).

Benguet ranked second among all the provinces in the country under the Year-on-Year Growth in Locally Sourced Revenue category for fiscal year 2021.

Based on the 2021 LSR, Benguet recorded a 67.9% increase with P683.65 million compared to the P407.15 million LSR in 2020.

The plaque of achievement was received by Gov. Diclas and Provincial Treasurer Imelda I. Macanes.

 

The Governor recognized the effort and camaraderie of the personnel in the Provincial Treasury Office and all the offices concerned with the collection of fees and charges saying it is a fruit of a continued collaboration.

Governor Diclas said the provincial LGU will continue to work hand-in-hand in putting more effort to maintain or even improve its performance in revenue generation.

The province also ranked 7th nationwide under the same category for fiscal year 2019-2020.

LIVELIHOOD ASSISTANCE FOR ASF, QUAKE-HIT LIVESTOCK FARMERS.

Some thirty livestock farmers from different towns in the province received cash aid from the Provincial Government of Benguet headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas on October 24, 2022 at the Provincial Capitol.

Twenty-seven (27) of the beneficiaries were farmers affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF) crisis which led to the depopulation of their pigs, while the three others lost their livestock equipment and other facilities during the July-27 earthquake.

Gov. Diclas said the Provincial Government released funds amounting to P960, 550.00 for the said assistance program to at least help the ASF and earthquake affected livestock farmers recover from their loss.

According to the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), the recipients are the ones who submitted report to their Municipal LGUs which the PVO assessed and validated.

During the cash aid distribution, the recipients were reminded to practice bio-security measures to prevent transmission of the ASF virus to livestock such as ensuring hygiene at their pigsu2019 den and avoiding feeding scraps containing meat to their pigs. They were also told to be alert to symptoms of the disease and report the case immediately to their LGUs.

Meanwhile, Gov. Diclas thanked the Provincial Veterinary Office headed by Dr. Miriam Tiongan for the swift processing of the beneficiariesu2019 documents and for playing their part in the governmentu2019s continued fight against ASF.
